Urban Forest

Welcome to Gujarat Rajya Gram Vikas Samiti (GRGVS)!
Since our inception in 1988, our NGO has been dedicated to environment conservation and sustainable development. We have proudly planted over 100,000 trees and implemented more than 1,100 rainwater harvesting projects across Gujarat. Our latest and most ambitious project is the creation of an Urban Forest in Ahmedabad, leveraging the renowned Miyawaki Method to transform urban spaces into thriving green habitats.

Our Latest Project: The Urban Forest in Ahmedabad

Project Overview

We are thrilled to announce our Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to develop an Urban Forest at TP 26, FP-57, Near AMC Gymnasium and Swimming Pool, Vastrapur Station Road, Ahmedabad, 380015. This project aims to plant 30,000 trees using the Miyawaki Method, a proven technique for creating dense, native forests that grow rapidly and require minimal maintenance.

Location Details

  • Project Site: TP 26, FP-57, Near AMC Gymnasium and Swimming Pool
  • Area: Vastrapur Station Road
  • City: Ahmedabad
  • PIN Code: 380015

Objectives and Vision

Our vision is to make this the best urban forest in India, creating a sanctuary for biodiversity and a green lung for the city. We aim to:

  • Enhance Biodiversity: By planting a variety of native species, we will create a rich habitat for local wildlife.
  • Improve Air Quality: The forest will help to sequester carbon dioxide, reducing pollution and improving the air quality of Ahmedabad.
  • Community Engagement: We will involve local communities, CSR companies, individuals, and environmental enthusiasts in the planting and maintenance of the forest.
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): This project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

The Miyawaki Method

The Miyawaki Method, developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, is an innovative approach to forest creation. This method involves planting dense clusters of native species, which grow quickly and form a self-sustaining ecosystem within a few years. The benefits of this method include:

  • Rapid growth of trees
  • High biodiversity
  • Low maintenance once established
  • Enhanced ecosystem services such as air purification and temperature regulation

Support and Contributions

To achieve our goal of planting 1 million trees by 2030, we seek support from various stakeholders:

  • CSR Companies: We invite corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions to support our environmental initiatives as outlined in Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013.
  • Individuals and Environmental Enthusiasts: We welcome individuals passionate about the environment to volunteer and contribute to our mission.
  • Government: Collaboration with governmental bodies like Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Forest Department, Garden Department
  • Foreign Contributions:  International partners will be crucial to the success of this project.
