Sanitation For All : Providing Access to Hygienic Toilets in Rural Gujarat

Introduction: Gujarat Rajya Gram Vikas Samiti is an NGO committed to the development and welfare of rural areas in Gujarat. As part of our CSR initiative, we are launching a project to provide Individual House Hold Latrine (IIHL), Public Toilets, and School Sanitation (Toilets for Schools) in rural areas of Gujarat. We seek support from companies working for CSR, social welfare, and health to fund this project.

Background: Rural areas in Gujarat lack adequate sanitation facilities, leading to the spread of diseases, especially among children. Lack of sanitation facilities also affects the dignity and privacy of women and girls. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has made progress in improving sanitation in India, but there is still much work to be done in rural areas.

Objective: The objective of the IIHL, Public Toilets, and School Sanitation project is to provide access to adequate and hygienic sanitation facilities to rural communities in Gujarat. The project aims to construct 1000 IIHL, 50 Public Toilets, and provide sanitation facilities in 100 schools in the next three years. The project will involve local communities in construction and maintenance of the facilities.

Activities: We will identify suitable sites for the construction of IIHL, Public Toilets, and school sanitation facilities. Procure materials for the construction of the facilities. Construct IIHL, Public Toilets, and school sanitation facilities according to the needs and preferences of the communities. Involve local communities in the construction and maintenance of the facilities. Organize awareness campaigns and training sessions on the importance of sanitation, hygiene, and health.

Outcomes: Access to adequate and hygienic sanitation facilities for rural communities in Gujarat. Improvement in health and hygiene of communities, especially children and women. Reduction in the spread of diseases caused by poor sanitation. Improvement in the dignity and privacy of women and girls. Increase in awareness and participation of local communities in sanitation and hygiene. Improvement in educational outcomes of children due to availability of sanitation facilities in schools.

Conclusion: The IIHL, Public Toilets, and School Sanitation project is an important CSR initiative that will improve health, hygiene, and dignity of rural communities in Gujarat. With support from companies, we can provide access to adequate and hygienic sanitation facilities to those who need it most.
